First of all, I love the movie so much. And as I was rewatching it the other day, a thought occurred to me that showed me how deep Disney really is.

It was during Mother Gothel’s death scene. There’s the moment when Mother Gothel starts to fall out of the window. And the look on Rapunzel’s face made me stop.

((Sorry for the crap quality))

Look at how scared she is. She is literally reaching out to the only mother she’s ever known, and she knows that she’s about to lose that mother. The terror in her eyes is obvious. Even after all the terrible things Mother Gothel did to Rapunzel, she has the irresistible urge of mother daughter love.

In that split second, Rapunzel knows that she’s lost everything she ever cared about, starting with Eugene then her mother.

I just found it utterly amazing that even after all the evil she committed, Mother Gothel was still loved by her surrogate daughter that much.
